Horizon Yacht Company and Pearlson Shiplift Corporation (PSC) have signed a contract for the design and build a new shiplift for its superyacht maintenance, repair and refit service centre in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The shipyard’s decision to expand its refit capabilities was driven by its intent to better serve the growing market in Asia and Pacific regions. Upon completion in 2024, the new Pearlson Shiplift System will be capable of handling vessels of up to 1,800tn.

The shiplift will provide our shipyard with vastly increased capability and capacity helping to fulfill unprecedented demand for global superyacht owners,” said John Lu, CEO Horizon Group.Following significant research by our team in shiplift and drydocking technologies, the selection of Pearlson Shiplift Corporation was the clear and obvious choice for our shipyard expansion project.”

The investment and partnership with Pearlson Shiplift Corporation is based on the shiplift builder’s reputation, said Horizon.

“We are very excited to be associated with the outstanding team from Horizon Group in the design and build of this state-of-the-art shiplift system,” said Bryan Fraind, vice president and chief operating officer, Pearlson Shiplift Corporation.

This latest investment by Horizon will ensure the stunning luxury yachts served by the shipyard will be launched and retrieved using the drydocking industry’s safest, most reliable technology.”

Lu added that Horizon has been making infrastructure investments over the last several years, as demand for the shipyard to produce more vessels has continued to increase. Most recently in 2021, Horizon completed a 106,745sqft expansion at its Kaohsiung shipyard, allowing the Asian shipyard to build seven yachts up to 120ft in length simultaneously.

Horizon specialises in building superyachts, power catamarans and expedition yachts from 52ft to 150ft and has delivered more than 240 superyachts (over 80ft) since 1987.
