The Italian Sea Group (TISG) has announced with “heartfelt sorrow” the passing of its vice-chairman Giuseppe Taranto, after battling an illness which lasted less than a year.

The shipyard said he fought with “immense courage and dignity”.

Company CEO, Giovanni Costantino said: “None of us were prepared to face such a great heartache. Giuseppe, an elegant man, a trusted counsellor and a long-time friend, left us prematurely.”

Born in Gioia del Colle, southern Italy, Taranto had more than three decades of experience in the superyacht industry. He held executive roles at the Natuzzi Group from 1994 to 2009.

In 2009 Taranto joined Tecnomar, which would later become a TISG brand, as general manager. In 2010 he was appointed MD of the firm.

He had served as TISG’s world commercial office manager and vice-chairman of the board of directors since 2016.

“I am deeply grieved remembering the human and professional path that saw us all standing closely together during the last 30 years, a relationship of true brotherhood, mutual and deep professional esteem which allowed us to face so many challenges together,” said Costantino.

According to Costantino, the best way to honour his memory is to treasure Taranto’s values of humanity, responsibility and dedication.

The TISG board said it will convene in the near future to determine the company’s next steps.

Costantino expressed his condolences to Taranto’s wife Lucia and his children Ludovica and Valentino.
