Bilgin Yachts has signed a contract with Rolls-Royce Power Systems company MTU Turkey for the supply of six MTU engines with the potential edition of two more units.

The engines will be deployed to power two 47.6 metre Bilgin 156 motoryachts along with the Bilgin 263 one of the largest luxury yachts ever built in Turkey.

The yacht manufacturer recently won the construction order for the 80.1 metre superyacht from what is understood to be a long-standing customer. It will be powered by twin MTU 16V 4000 M63R engines.

Bilgin has also embarked on the construction of two 47.6 metre motor yachts, each of which will be powered by an MTU 12V 2000 M72 unit. The 80.1 metre superyacht will also be the largest vessel that Bilgin Yachts has built. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2016 and delivery is planned for 2019. The partnership between Bilgin Yachts and MTU Turkey has lasted two decades.

İsmail Şengün, chief executive of Bilgin, said: “Realisation of this large-scale project definitely represents a major step forward for Bilgin. This important project will also enable us to continue our excellent cooperation with MTU. We may be increasing the engine order to eight units, as another contract for an 80 metre vessel is on the way.”

MTU will supply the engines for the 47.6 metre yachts in September 2016 and mid-2017, while the engines for the 80.1 metre superyacht are to be shipped in late 2016.

Ekrem Kuraloğlu, managing director of MTU Turkey, said: “This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for us in today’s yacht market and we very much appreciate the opportunity to collaborate again with Bilgin.”
