The one-off showstopper lighting piece ‘Blaze’, designed by UK-based Alexander Joseph, has been sold for £20,000 to a private Bahraini client who is placing it centre stage in the main salon of his luxury superyacht.

When Alexander Joseph launched the world’s first luxury cordless lamps a month ago the team created a spectacular one-off lamp, not only to demonstrate the level of craftsmanship that the company could deliver, but also to push the boundaries when it came to marrying design and technology.

Blaze, completely handmade by a team of craftsmen, features a base and all fittings painstakingly finished in 24ct gold, including the lampshade ring, despite the fact it is unlikely to be seen. The body is handblown from high grade glass in Cobalt Blue, infused with 24ct gold, whilst the 18-inch handmade lampshade is finished in gold satin silk, with the technology tucked away in the base.

Beth Nash, marketing manager at Alexander Joseph, said: “Sunseeker Sales Group and West Coast Developments allowed us access to their luxury motor yachts and high net worth properties, where we took publicity photographs of Blaze and some of the products from the range.

“Within 24 hours of sharing images on our social media channels we were contacted by our client’s private office and are receiving ongoing worldwide enquiries from stylists and interior designers, hotels, restaurants, boat builders, retailers and more.”

The actual product design and manufacture occurred when company founder Mark Robinson tried to buy cordless table lamps. When he could only locate novelty low voltage sealed units or lamps with components which do not comply with UK safety legislation, he decided to create his own – using a team of British designers and artisan craftsmen.

Alexander Joseph is currently beginning work on the next bespoke piece, which will be unveiled towards the end of November/early December.
