Lürssen to launch Middle East-bound megayacht Project Mistral
Lürssen will launch Project Mistral this Saturday (16 March) a 100-metre plus yacht designed by Espen Oeino. It will launch from a floating dock 31 months after its keel was laid in 2013.
Project Mistral will be delivered later in the year and will be the second yacht Lürssen will deliver in 2016. After its delivery the yacht will depart for the Middle East where she will join a fleet of other yachts.
The last yacht to be launched by the Lürssen yard is understood to have been the highly-secretive 156-metre Project Omar. The vessel is believed to be the fourth-largest superyacht ever built.
The Lürssen company was set up on 27 June 1875. Since then the shipyard has constructed more than 13,000 boats and ships, all at its Bremen or north German facilities. In 2013, the company delivered Azzam the, then, largest yacht in the world at 180-metres. Despite its immense size, the vessel had a top speed of more than 30 knots.
