Marina operator D-Marin has acquired a majority stake in yacht security service Sense4Boat. The company will provide D-Marin with an Internet of Things (IoT) platform to monitor docked vessels and detect potential threats.

The IoT service will connect physical objects with technologies, such as Sense4Boat’s sensors, to exchange data with other devices and systems over the internet or other communications networks.

Dean Smith, chief commercial officer, D-Marin said: “We’re thrilled to extend our partnership with Sense4Boat, acquiring a majority of the business to fully integrate and develop the innovative sensors that the company has developed to put boat owners’ minds at ease.”

The acquisition is part of D-Marin’s “digitalisation investment programme”, designed to enrich its berth holders’ yachting experiences.

“It is another step forward in our digitalisation journey, with more to come,” said Smith. “We are also committed to supporting Sense4Boat with its plans to expand its offering beyond D-Marin’s network.”

As part of the agreement, Sense4Boat will continue to develop its platform and further scale its business across the yachting, marina and insurance industries.

“We strongly believe that digitalisation and IoT technology are the key competitive advantages for marinas in the 21st century,” said Krešimir Žic, founder and CEO, Sense4Boat. “Together [with D-Marin] we will create innovative solutions which will transform the whole industry and make boating safer, easier and more enjoyable for all boat owners
