‘Like a sofa-based bobsleigh run’ – SYI London is back

The panel debate the topic 'Standing up for owners' reps' at Superyacht Investor London.
Elbows ready, race faces on, energy and clarity coursing through the system. The start gate is primed. It’s the Winter Olympics and the ski cross competitors peer down the tumbling, twisting course below them. Anything can happen in the next few minutes as they tackle the tight berms and gaping jumps alongside three fired-up rivals.
In that instance, nothing else matters. It’s every racer for themselves in a belligerent battle to the line, like shoppers pushing trolleys to the supermarket till. But everyone has a plan until they get shouldered in the face by the big Canadian as they take off over a roller.
Hopefully, that’s not the case with our panellists at our Superyacht Investor London conference this week. They’re more like a sofa-based bobsleigh team. The speakers and their moderators will jump in for a rock ‘n’ roll ride through the chosen topic, thundering down the straights and leaning into a few tricky corners along the way. They might be in the same sled, but they don’t have to agree on every aspect of the run. Why would you take that line out of the turn? Ideally, they’ll reach the end the right way up and still talking to each other.

Whether the speakers turn up in helmets remains to be seen. But the sessions will be lively, insightful and fun.
We’ll quiz CEOs and shipyard owners, and hear from leading lawyers, financiers and brokers. We’ll learn about wealth migration and talk to yacht managers and family office experts. We’ll discuss design and refit psychology and explore aviation assets. And we’ll delve into the world of owners and their corporate structures.
And like a hyped-up ice hockey crowd, we want you, the audience, involved. Bring questions, curiosity and collaboration.
In the Austrian ski resort of Kitzbühel there is a bar called The Londoner. It’s tradition after the infamous Hahnenkamm downhill race that the winner and his mates get behind the bar and fire up the party. It’s like networking at the conference, only slightly sweatier.
If you’re coming this week, we can’t wait to see you. If not, keep in touch. But remember, it’s not really like the Olympics. It happens every year. And we’ll be in Miami in November.
