Wider‘s new shipyard in Fano, Italy is set to open its first production area in February 2023, having started construction earlier this year.

The first model to be built at the 18,000msq new facility will be the WiderCat 92 catamaran.

The 28m (92ft) vessel will be built with a hybrid propulsion system, of which five units have already been sold and expected for delivery in 2023 and 2024.

The new shipyard will be a real innovation centre,” said Marcello Maggi, chairman of W-Fin Sarl, the holding company that owns Wider. “It’s where all our future boats, new green technologies and new ideas coming from start-uppers will come to life in full compliance with environmental issues.”

Maggi highlighted that local businesses in the Italian province have benefitted from the investment too. The building itself was designed by Fano based architects, Alessandro Massari and Mauro Cavicchi of Massari Design Architecture Studio.

The brief was for a structure based on sustainable principles and striking design that also provided the kind of functional efficiencies associated with modern boatbuilding processes,” said CEO, Massari.

Massari added that the Fano facility will be “virtually self-sufficient” on solar-powered cells placed on the roof and will use a recyclable plastic wood composite as cladding.
