Burak Akgul takes over as CEO of Turquoise Yachts in Turkey.

Turquoise Yachts CEO Patrik von Sydow is to step down at the end of November and will be replaced by board member Burak Akgül.

Von Sydow has been at the helm of the Turkish superyacht shipyard for six years but will leave on 30th November with  executive director Akgül taking over with immediate effect.

In a statement, Turquoise thanked von Sydow for his “tireless dedication” during numerous new-build sales, constructions and deliveries.

It added that Akgül has a “rare mixture” of international experience amassed over a 30-year career, much of it leading foreign-owned yacht building operations in Turkey with Perini Navi.

His appointment will “help guide Turquoise on its path to further growth and success”, said Dr Mohammed Al-Barwani, founder and chairman of MB Group which owns Turquoise, in the statement.

The yard has about six projects under construction including the 87m Vento which will be Turquoise’s largest ever yacht, as well as the 81m Rafale and the 76m Arrow.

It has previously built notable yachts such as the 75m Infinite Jest, the 79m Nympheas and the 72.6m Quantum of Solace.

MB Group purchased Dutch yard Oceanco in 2010 and followed that by acquiring a majority stake in Turkey’s Proteksan-Turquoise in 2014, renaming it Turquoise Yachts.
