Sanlorenzo partners with Siemens

Sanlorenzo has partnered with Siemens Energy in its biggest commitment to sustainable yachting to date. The announcement, which came at the Cannes Yachting Festival this week, followed the reveal of strong financial results for the Italian builder in 2021 so far.

“Sustainability has to become the focus of our company,” said Bluegame Yachts, CEO, Carla Demaria. This kind of partnership was inconceivable one year ago, with industries everywhere fighting the challenges of a global pandemic, she added.

“But with one of the biggest players in the world for energy, we will work to reduce the impact [of our yachts] with Siemens Energy,” said Demaria.

The partnership will focus on creating fossil fuel alternatives, such as fuel cell technology. However, Demaria said the sustainability of the Italian builder’s supply chain would also have to be considered. This is because raw materials have become harder to obtain and must be sourced sustainably in line with the group’s new vision.
