The largest superyacht ever built by a Turkish shipyard has been launched by Bilgin Yachts from the West Istanbul Marina. The launch is the first in the 80-metre Bilgin 263 series, with another two hulls planned for delivery in 2021.

Bilgin is heralding the vessel as the “most environmentally-friendly yacht in her class”, due to an exhaust filter which, according to the Turkish builder, emits 100% clean air emissions. The yacht will now be outfitted at the marina in time for delivery in late spring.

Emrecan Özgün, CEO and founder of Unique Yacht Design, the 263’s naval architects and exterior designers, said: “With her design and comfort elements, the Bilgin 263 is truly one-of-a-kind. We created a very attractive yacht with a sleek and sexy profile while avoiding high-dosage design clichés. The increase in living areas normally results in bulky designs. The Bilgin 263 has a design attitude that will dominate the yachting sector around the world.”

With two 2,560 kW engines, she can speed up to 20 knots, while the cruising speed of 12 knots keeps her fuel consumption as low as 250 litres per hour. The engines, MTU marine Series 4000s from Rolls-Royce, received International Maritime Organisation (IMO) Tier III certification in 2018. MTU’s new integrated system consists of a propulsion system and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust gas after treatment system and is designed to require a minimal amount of space.

Superyachts propelled by Series 4000s will be able to switch between IMO Tier II and Tier III modes during operation in order to comply with the emission requirements of the region in which the yacht is sailing. MTU’s SCR system is fully controlled, with real-time NOx measurement both upstream and downstream of the SCR system.

Bilgin Yachts is currently building two more units of the 80-metre Bilgin 263 series. The second hull – which is already sold – is planned to be launched in 2021 and following that, the third hull of the model will be delivered to her owner in the same year.

Toby Sturge of H2 Yacht Design, designers of the 263’s interior, said of the owner, “He was asking for a layout that was unique to his own requirements and one that people would certainly remember and differentiate among many other 80m yachts. As H2 Yacht Design team, we focused on the owner’s wishes and turned them into a comfortable, luxurious yet functional interior.”
