Wally launches Galateia
UK based shipyard Wally have launched the third unit of their wallycento line, Galateia.
The 30.5 metre sailing yacht is currently undergoing sea trials before being delivered to her UK owner.
“The wallycento formula is indisputably successful because these super yachts proved to be highly competitive, very technical, extremely fast in all conditions, and exceptionally cruiser friendly” said Luca Bassani, Wally founder and president. “With all these characteristics, the wallycento super yachts currently reflect the highest technological expression of the world of large sailing yachts continuing the tradition of the true Maxis, which is racing in an homogeneous and competitive fleet.”
Galateia’s owners chose their new wallycento after the strong performance of Magic Carpet3 winner of the 2014 Wally Annual Trophy and of the 2015 off-shore Giraglia race. Magic Carpet3‘s naval architect, Reichel Pugh Yacht Design, worked on Galeteia, with Wally designing the exterior and interior.
“All areas of the design were open for development with focus on improving the underwater foil package, reducing windage and improving the yacht’s systems, weight, and function” said Jim Pugh, Reichel Pugh Yacht Design. “A critical emphasis was on providing a responsive and rewarding experience for the helmsperson with a reassuring feeling of stability and control especially in more arduous wind and sea conditions”
After her sea trials, Galateia will sail to the Carribean where she is scheduled to race in a few regattas.
Wally currently has several yachts under construction including the fourth and fifth 26 metre wallyaces, the first 30 metre wallyace, and the first custom 80 wallypower.
They are also finalising the sale of the fourth wallycento.
