MB92 Barcelona’s new fittings centre which is now operational is a “game-changer”, according to the firm’s chief operating officer, Jordi Ariet. Located close to the other MB92 facilities in the Port of Barcelona, the new centre covers a total of 1,600sqm.

The facility includes two paint cabins; a drying or curing room; an assembly line which can also be used for disassembling; paint mixing, spray gun cleaning and paint storage areas; and an office space.

Ariet explained that the service is something MB92 has planned to offer clients for some time. “We have undertaken extensive research to develop the optimum environment to deliver the highest quality, efficiency, safety and sustainability,” said Ariet.

“This facility really is a game-changer, providing numerous advantages to clients not just in terms of increased productivity and quality but also safety and control, with ATEX certification, comprehensive security throughout and tracking registry of each fitting,” he added.

MB92 said the paint cabins are controlled environment in which variables such as humidity, air flow and temperature can be managed precisely. This is down to aero thermic climate control and scrubber technology. The refit yard said this facilitates better results in painting and curing but is also more sustainable.

Ariet said: “We are already seeing the benefits in just a short period of operation. With fittings now centrally managed at the centre, we can monitor, and reduce emissions and VOCs [volatile organic compounds] more effectively. Furthermore, we can liberate space in the shipyard traditionally occupied by tents for other services.”
