The shareholders of Rönner Group and Gustav Zech Stiftung have promoted Friedrich Norden to the role of MD at the Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven shipyard.  The appointment is effective from Wednesday, December 1st.

Previously a project manager at the shipyard, Norden will work alongside another MD, Thorsten Rönner, with current MD Carsten Sippel leaving the company.

Norden said: “I am looking forward to the challenges and projects ahead for me with Lloyd Werft and would like to thank the shareholders for their trust.”

Norden added that the company has experienced “positive responses” from the recent yacht shows in Monaco and Fort Lauderdale, with the introduction of its new superyacht project Albatross.

The new MD initially trained as an industrial mechanic at Lloyd Werft from 1989 – 1991. Since the end of 2014, he has led  Lloyd Werft’s Project Department and managed the build of superyacht 454ft (140m) Solaris (pictured).

His appointment makes him the third generation of Norden to become MD of the shipyard, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father.

“In spite of the current difficult conditions, I am certain that we will be able to return Lloyd Werft to its old glory,” he said. “In order to reach this target, we have started again drydock and repair work for all kinds of vessels.”

Following the insolvency of Genting Group, the shipyard has been part of Rönner Group and Gustav Zech Stiftung since the spring of this year.
