Project developer Thomas Sperling told Superyacht Investor that the steel cutting of Blohm+Voss’s first BV80 will start today.

The 80 metre project has now completed its tank testing, class approvals and detailed engineering phase and the first hull is now ready to be built.

Clients will be able to take delivery of the customised yacht 30 months from the contract date. The first hull is scheduled for delivery in April 2018.

Eidsgaard Design have partnered with Blohm+Voss as designers on the project.

“We’ve aimed to adhere to and expand upon the illustrious heritage of Blohm+Voss and deliver an 80m yacht that condenses this knowledge into an iconic vessel with its own distinct identity” said Peder Eidsgaard and Ben Harrison.

“We believe the BV80 is a fitting tribute to the shipyard’s worldwide stature, as it blends timeless, elegant design with unique features. Overall, the BV80 has a beautiful hull shape, dramatic proportions and dynamic features.”

“We’ve paid homage to recognisable Blohm+Voss designs and created a practical yet stunning yacht for the future.”

Blohm+Voss’s portfolio includes 1,000 vessels across its 138 year history as well as numerous refits and conversions.

Blohm+Voss said: “Much of the new investment and development work will be focused on the superyacht sector in order to strengthen the company’s position as the world’s pre-eminent builder and service provider of custom yachts over 80m.”

The naval architects recently created a dedicated superyacht division in Hamburg to offer customers “the possiblilty of a true ‘one stop shop’ centre of excellence for the whole lifecycle of their yacht”.
